No, I’m not saying the Celtics are going to trade for Damian Lillard as the sharpshooting point guard likely won’t be made available. While Lillard will probably remain in Portland, CJ McCollum could be headed on his way out. McCollum has acted as the second fiddle to Lillard for the past six seasons.
Despite what some fans think of him, CJ McCollum is a three-level scorer that could be a perfect addition for a ton of contending teams this offseason — including the Celtics.
McCollum has shown over the course of his career that he’s capable of contributing as a shooter when he is handling the ball. In addition, he would give Boston a player that can orchestrate with the bench unit, given the team’s lack of a point guard.
A possible trade for McCollum would include Marcus Smart, Aaron Nesmith, Tristan Thompson, and possibly more. Forming a trio of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and CJ McCollum would be a fantastic start for Stevens as an executive.
