Why The Trade Benefits The Knicks
Julius Randle had a good year for New York, but it showed in the postseason why the Knicks still need another star. RJ Barrett is another player that improved greatly this year and showed potential of being a starter in the league for a long time. With that being said, the Knicks are not a finished product and that is what they need to fix this offseason.
New York needs to improve the point guard position, their front-court, and potentially add another big name. As good as Derrick Rose was in the postseason, he is not a long-term solution in New York.
Mitchell Robinson has proven to be injury prone, which could make the front office send him away in a deal. Tom Thibodeau brought in a lot of his guys, such as Rose and Taj Gibson, in his first year with the Knicks. Now, he must work with a team that is more well-balanced on both ends of the floor
The Knicks were arguably the best defensive team in the league this year. They bought into Thibodeau’s game plan and style. The franchise looked completely changed from what we have seen in the past and that could make the Knicks a desirable destination moving forward.
Andrew Wiggins can score the ball in bunches, although he does struggle at times with consistency. His ability to score and defend would help the Knicks out in a big way. While he isn’t a superstar, he would be a very good addition for New York and could help them compete even more in the East.
