According to reports, the Hornets pursued Holmes before the NBA trade deadline and were engaged in trade talks with the Sacramento Kings. While nothing came to fruition then, they will assuredly make a run at him again now that he is a free agent. He’ll be among the top names to watch in NBA rumors this offseason.
Holmes has turned himself into a force on the court with the Kings, putting up career numbers during the 2020-21 season. He averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 blocks and 0.6 steals in only 29.2 minutes per game.
Entering his age-28 season, Holmes is in the midst of his prime and would represent an excellent free-agent target for the Hornets to use a chunk of their cap space on.
