Trade Ricky Rubio
Ricky Rubio started his career with the Timberwolves and they acquired him from the Suns prior to the start of this season, but he is not a long-term solution for them at the point guard position. In fact, statistically speaking, Rubio is having the worst season of his career this year, as he is only averaging 8.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists and shooting just 38.6% from the floor.

He is a solid defender and has been known to be a reliable playmaker, but his production offensively has hurt the Timberwolves at times this year. Rubio stepped up in the absence of D’Angelo Russell, but with Russell back and other younger guards like Jaylen Nowell and Jordan McLaughlin on this roster, there is not a need for Rubio anymore.
Not to mention, Ricky Rubio is owed $17.8M next season and he would be eating away at the Timberwolves cap space that they could use to potentially bring in one or two role players to improve their overall depth and talent.
Rubio’s contract is a lot to ask another team to take on, but the T-Wolves could probably find a suitor for him in the offseason and that is exactly what they should do. What he does on the court is not with $17.8M and with the Timberwolves seriously lacking talent at other positions and on their bench in particular, trading Rubio makes a ton of sense to free up cap space.
