Another MVP award is in Stephen Curry’s future

Many believe that Stephen Curry should be in the MVP conversation this year given how well he has played and the statistics definitely support this movement, however, the Warriors are the 10-seed in the Western Conference right now and it is hard to say that the league’s “Most Valuable Player” comes from a team that is going to have to fight for their playoff lives this year.

Nikola Jokic seems to be the clear-cut favorite to win the league-MVP award this season, but this is definitely not the last chance Curry will have to win his third MVP award. Only 8 players in NBA history have won 3+ MVP awards and those on this list include: Magic Johnson (1987, 1989, 1990), Larry Bird (1984,1985, 1986), Moses Malone (1979, 1982, 1983), LeBron James (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), Wilt Chamberlain (1960, 1966, 1967, 1968), Michael Jordan (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998), Bill Russell (1958, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980).

That is quite the list of Hall-of-Fame and soon-to-be Hall-of-Fame talent (LeBron James) that Curry could potentially join if he was to win a third MVP award and given how well he has played this year, it is safe to say that he will find his way back into the discussion for league MVP in the future.

Stephen Curry could potentially even contend for the league-MVP award next season if Klay Thompson can return and play at a high-level. If Curry has yet another season like he is having this year and the Warriors are one of the better teams in the Western Conference next season, it will be hard not to give Curry the MVP award.

The Warriors getting back to top-tier relevance again is definitely not out of the question and should this happen, Stephen Curry will have a really strong chance to win his third MVP award, putting him in elite company with some of the greatest players in NBA history.
