Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?
While they do have Markelle Fultz and Cole Anthony, D’Angelo Russell would be a great fit for the Orlando Magic as their franchise point guard because of his patient, isolation-type style of play. The Magic are known for not being a fast paced team and taking what teams give them and that is exactly the kind of player D’Angelo Russell is.
He is a great athlete and is more than capable of pushing the tempo, but he prefers to do his damage taking defenders one-on-one and getting to his spots. Cole Anthony is a great young player, as is Markelle Fultz, but adding an experienced, All-Star guard like Russell is hard to pass up, especially for this price.
Terrence Ross is a player the Magic will be looking to trade anyways either in the offseason or at the NBA trade deadline next year and with both Anthony and Fultz healthy, they do not really have a need for MCW. Not to mention, the Magic would be getting a future first-round pick in this deal, thus giving them more chances to add onto their young core.
At some point, the Magic will need to make some kind of a move to bring in a high-level, All-Star caliber player to lead their young core, which is exactly why D’Angelo Russell makes sense. He has always thrived when he is “the guy” on a team and without another All-Star player on this roster, he could end up having some of his best seasons as a pro.

Whether or not they can get more value in a trade individually for Terrence Ross is yet to be known, but in this deal, getting Russell and a protected future first-round pick makes a ton of sense for the Orlando Magic.
