New York Knicks
With them projected to have about $61.2M in cap space this coming offseason and them being one of the top defensive teams in the league, the Knicks are definitely one of the teams to watch in the Lonzo Ball sweepstakes. They have the ability to outright sign Ball to a big contract in the offseason and he would fit in perfectly with how they play.
One of the best aspects of Lonzo Ball’s game that goes under noticed and underappreciated at times is his ability to play defense. He is a very effective one-on-one defender and is a very disruptive defender in passing lanes.
This season, the Knicks defense has made them one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference and is the main reason why they are likely going to make the playoffs for the first time since 2013 this season.
With Julius Randle having a breakout, All-Star season and R.J. Barrett has started to turn himself into a one-day, potential All-Star wing, the Knicks have everything in place to be a great team moving forward, they just need to add more talent. Adding Lonzo Ball to be their franchise point guard would be a great move, but they cannot afford to overpay him.
New York has overpaid guys in the past that have not panned out the way they had hoped and then the Knicks wound up having to either absorb all of their contract or wind up just buying them out of their contract.

With over $60M in cap space, the Knicks need to use this money wisely and give themselves the ability to not only sign Ball, but one to two other high-level talents as well. This offseason is critical for the Knicks to get right and if they do, then they could eventually turn themselves into championship contenders, something they have not been for decades.
