Los Angeles Clippers: History

After falling short of the Western Conference Finals last season after being up 3-1 on the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals, the Los Angeles Clippers have reloaded this season and seem like an even better team than a season ago.

They are still led by 2x Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and multi-time All-Star Paul George, but the supporting cast of this year’s Clippers team is much better. Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, Serge Ibaka, Reggie Jackson and newly acquired Rajon Rondo are all proven, experienced, veteran players that have what it takes to be one of the best supporting casts in the league come playoff time.

These are all guys that have earned their recognition league-wide and now, with them all being a part of the Clippers, have “championship or bust” on their minds. This season truly is “win or nothing” for the L.A. Clippers, but their previous history could wind up standing in the way of their goals once again.

For years now, it seems like the narrative of the regular season is that this is finally the year the Clippers are going to break through and make their first ever Western Conference Finals appearance, yet they always seem to come up short and wind up losing a playoff series they were heavy favorites to win.

Maybe this year finally is the year they get it done and fight for a championship, but if there is one thing we know about history, it is that it always finds a way to repeat itself! The Clippers making the WCF is more of a “I will believe it when I see it” type of deal and while they have looked like one of the league’s most dominant teams this year, they have not had a lot of playoff success over the years.

This is something that is definitely going to be in the back of the minds of these players and this organization come playoff time and for this reason, history is the Clippers’ biggest weakness that could hold them back from being this year’s champions.
