Kawhi Leonard – Los Angeles Clippers
You cannot talk about NBA free agency without talking about Kawhi Leonard! It seems like every offseason we are having the conversation about whether or not Leonard signs elsewhere or whether or not he opts out of his deal, but this offseason, Leonard’s situation is quite interesting. He has a $36M player option for next season, which seems idiotic to turn down, but if the Clippers come up short of their goals once again this season and fall apart in the playoffs like usual, then Kawhi could be as good as gone.
The Miami Heat have been a team long connected to KawhiLeonard that would be able to sign him if they were willing to move some contracts around and just today, NBA Analysis Network’s own Evan Massey reported that the Golden State Warriors could potentially look to pursue Kawhi Leonard. Just imagine Kawhi running up and down the floor with Curry, Thompson and Draymond!
We will not know much about what’s next for Kawhi Leonard and his future with the Clippers until we see how things turn out in the playoffs, but if the Clippers come up short once again of their ultimate goals, it is a very real possibility that Kawhi will decline his player option, giving him the ability to leave Los Angeles if he wants to.

Just because he declines his player option though does not mean he will leave. Kawhi Leonard has always been known to be a guy that is willing to restructure his contract to help the franchise and help bring in other big name players, so he could do a similar thing with the Clippers in the offseason, but there is a ton of speculation that Kawhi Leonard could entertain the idea of playing somewhere else.
