3. Evan Fournier
Evan Fournier was the big acquisition at the NBA trade deadline for the Celtics. they took advantage of an Orlando Magic team looking to dump an expiring contract. Fournier will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season so his stay in Boston could be short. It is likely that the Celtics give Fournier a look at the end of the season if he helps them down the stretch.
The debut for Evan Fournier in a Celtics’ uniform left much to be desired. He finished 0-10 from the field and did not score in 33 minutes of action. The only positive if that he cannot go anywhere but up. Fournier is scoring 18.9 points per game this season and can get it done from all three levels.
Fournier is not the strongest defensive player but is not a liability at the same time. His fit on the perimeter in Boston is strong because that is where the Celtics thrive. He adds immediate depth and talent to a roster that could use both.

The Celtics used a low-risk trade with the Magic to acquire Evan Fournier, so it wouldn’t necessarily be a meltdown level event if he were to depart in NBA free agency. However, after losing Gordon Hayward last offseason, Boston is going to need to find a long-term answer to fill that void at some point. It would surely help if it were to be Fournier.
At 28 years old, Evan Fournier still has plenty of good years left and Boston could look to take advantage of those with a contract in the offseason. He is already in the building so this is a good start for the front office if they want to begin negotiations.
