Why This Trade Would Benefit The Detroit Pistons

Getting rid of both Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin were two obvious moves for the Pistons this season. Jerami Grant has been a great acquisition to this point but it has meant nothing to this point given the fact that the team is 20 games below .500. with no improvement in sight. Grant is not a long-term piece for the Pistons and they should look to take advantage of his value right away.

This is one deal where they could do just that. Both Brooks and Winslow are players that can come in and contribute right away. Grant is owed upwards of $42 million over the final two years of his deal. This is a hefty price tag for a team that is near the bottom of the standings.

Detroit should be interested in gaining as many young assets and draft picks as possible. This is where Jerami Grant’s value could come into play and help the Pistons. It has been a busy few months for Detroit and it could continue in the offseason.

The production that Jerami Grant provided the Pistons early in the season was quite impressive but his pace has slowed down since then. There is still somewhat of a question regarding whether Grant will be able to get back to that peak next season. It’s his first season as a top option, so it’s natural to question whether this is just his first set of adjustments needed, or if the league has figured him out a bit.

Dwane Casey is a proven head coach in the league but does not have the right cast of characters on the roster. The front office has plenty of work todo if they want to get back to competing. However, it will need to be done through the NBA Draft if the Pistons are to do it successfully to maximize their long-term success. Trading Jerami Grant for assets would help to accelerate the process.
