Charlotte Hornets Receive: F Jerami Grant

Detroit Pistons Receive: G Terry Rozier, CHA 2022 1st Round Pick, CHA 2024 1st Round Pick (Swap, More Favorable)

This past offseason, the Detroit Pistons made what is shaping up to be the best free agent signing of the season when they signed Jerami Grant to a three-year, $60M deal. Grant had a really solid season last year with the Denver Nuggets and after some impressive performances in the NBA Bubble, Detroit decided to make him their “star” player.

Everybody knew Jerami Grant was a really solid player, but not many were expecting to see him have the breakout season that he has. Through 37 games, Grant is averaging 23.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and is shooting 35.8% from three-point range. While the Pistons are currently in last-place in the Eastern Conference, this organization has a lot of high-potential, young players and in a couple seasons, they could be a very tough team to play.

It seems highly unlikely that the Hornets would look to move their breakout star and the front-office has shot down any rumors saying they have taken calls on Grant, but his value is at an all-time-high and with the Hornets having plenty of talent to offer up, it could be worth hearing their offer out.

Terry Rozier has been having a sensational year as we outlined earlier and with the Pistons needing a true leader in their backcourt, he could be the guy to help lead this young core, especially since Rozier himself is only 27-years old and entering the prime of his career.

Swapping Rozier for Grant almost seems like a lateral move for both the Hornets and Pistons given their similar numbers and production offensively, but there is a solid amount of value to be had on both ends of this trade. With that said, let’s take a closer look as to why this trade could make sense for both the Pistons and the Hornets.
