Why This Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs missed the postseason for the first time in 22 years during the restart. They are looking like they could make a move back this year and it would not be surprising. Gregg Popovich is one of the top coaches in the league and the team is having some young players step up. this will make it easier to part ways with the veterans.

Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson are looking like future pieces for the Spurs. DeRozan currently leads the team in scoring with 20.3 points per game but Murray has what it takes to lead a team. He is averaging 15.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game this season.

Aldridge is scoring 13.7 points per night and shooting 36% from three-point range. He is set to make $24 million this season before entering free agency. At 35-years old, he is not apart of the Spurs’ plan moving forward. He would have a chance to get another contract with a team if he is sent away.

For San Antonio, Aldridge is still worth enough to get a decent return. This would help the team immediately rather than letting him leave for nothing in the offseason.
