Why This Trade Would Benefit The Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons were relatively busy in the offseason when they brought in players like Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee. They used the seventh-overall pick in the draft on Killian Hayes and they are hoping that he turns into the point guard of the future. This was supposed to be a development year but has suffered an injury which will hold that process.
With Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose officially gone, their sites can be said in other directions. Grant could be that direction. Despite how good he has been individually, the team has just seven wins and there is no turn around in sight.
Detroit is going to be building for a long time and it seems like Grant is not going to be a long-term piece. He assigned for just three years which makes him valuable to a team looking to win now. Detroit could send him away for some younger options and draft picks.

This is a chance for the Pistons to completely start over from scratch and build up assets while clear and cap space. Is it going to be a long road in Detroit and the front office knows that they will have to start making some splashes.
