Golden State Warriors Receive: G Victor Oladipo, F P.J. Tucker

Houston Rockets Receive: F Andrew Wiggins, MIN 2021 2nd Round Pick, GSW 2022 1st Round Pick (Top-3 Protected)

Over the last week or so, the Golden State Warriors have had one player on their radar that keeps getting mentioned: Victor Oladipo. After being traded to the Rockets in January as an extension of the James Harden to Brooklyn trade, rumors have been circulating about if Oladipo will finish the season with the Rockets, especially since they are on their way to being one of the worst teams in the league.

The Warriors apparently have “high interest” in Victor Oladipo according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer and could look to pursue the former All-Star guard at the trade deadline. The only way the Warriors could make this trade work though is if they were willing to part ways with Andrew Wiggins.

Golden State would not do this deal unless they got a long-term commitment from Victor Oladipo first, as they would want to pair him with Curry and Thompson in the backcourt moving forward, but they also receive a lot of value by getting P.J. Tucker as well.

Not only has Tucker been named a player that the Warriors have had their eye on all season long as a potential trade target, but his versatility is what would bring a lot of value to this team. P.J. Tucker is a “glue guy” and plays a very similar role to that of Draymond Green in the sense that both guys do all of the little things to help their team win games.

While they would be giving up a little more value in terms of draft compensation in this trade compared to the previous Orlando Magic trade scenario, this is definitely a high-value trade for the Warriors, but could hurt them long-term if both players are going to test free agency next offseason.

There is no reason to get rid of Andrew Wiggins for a half a year rental of both Victor Oladipo and P.J. Tucker, which is why the Warriors may hold off on trying to go after a guy like Oladipo. All-in-all, there is still interest between the Warriors and Victor Oladipo, which could turn into something more at the NBA trade deadline this year.
