Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Will Barton, G P.J. Dozier, DEN 2023 2nd Round Pick

Denver Nuggets Receive: F Cam Reddish, G Tony Snell, ATL 2022 1st Round Pick (Lottery-Protected)

Through the years, Will Barton has been a really solid and consistent player for the Nuggets on the wing, but he has dealt with his fair share of injuries. When he is healthy, he is definitely an x-factor for the Nuggets and could be an impact player for the Hawks to add.

When Michael Porter Jr. missed nearly a month of the season earlier in the year, Will Barton stepped up into a bigger role for the Nuggets and was a key contributor for them. Now, he still holds a lot of value to them and is a key role player for them in their starting rotation.

In 30 games this season, Barton is averaging 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and is shooting 38.5% from three-point range. The “3-and-D” mentality that he plays with and possesses is what makes him such a great trade target for the Hawks, especially with DeAndre Hunter being out.

Barton has been getting better and better on the defensive end of the court, which is what makes him an interesting trade target for the Hawks. At full-strength, the Hawks have a solid amount of depth on the wing with De’Andre Hunter, Danilo Gallinari, Cam Reddish and Kevin Huerter, but there is no timetable for Gallinari’s return and Barton is a pretty versatile player.

Reddish has stepped up and has looked better in his second season in the league, but Barton is a more well-polished and established player that could help the Hawks in their playoff pursuit immediately. Reddish may have more of an upside and potential than Barton, but if the Hawks want to do everything they can to make the playoffs now, then Will Barton is a better option for them.

P.J. Dozier is also a high-impact combo-guard that the Hawks could heavily utilize. The only question is if the Nuggets would be willing to trade two key role players in exchange for a young wing in Reddish and a veteran wing in Tony Snell. They would be getting a future first-round pick in 2022 out of this trade, but the Nuggets just made the Western Conference Finals last year, so they may not be willing to shake things up roster wise.

The Hawks should do everything they can to pursue Will Barton though, even if Denver is not willing to trade him. Whether it is this year or in future years, the 30-year old wing should be a player on the Hawks radar.
