Why The Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are back to looking like a postseason team. This was to be expected with Gregg Popovich leading the way. There have been NBA trade rumors featuring DeMar DeRozan since he did not reach an agreement on a contract extension in the offseason. Nothing has happened just yet but the front office could take advantage of his value at the NBA trade deadline.
The best thing that could have happened to the Spurs was DeMar DeRozan having a good first half of the season. This put the team in a position to compete and gained even more value to a player they could be moving. If DeRozan is going to be dealt, one would think that the Spurs would have to get another big name or some draft picks.
Kristaps Porzingis is a player that would be worth it. This is difficult because of his injury history but Porzingis is a star when on the floor. He can fill it up from deep and runs the floor well. He would complement Dejounte Murray well down low and balance the floor for San Antonio.

If there is one coach that could get the most of Porzingis, it is Popovich. It would be extremely interesting and entertaining to see what he would be able to turn the Spurs into with Porzingis in the mix.
