This Mavericks-Spurs trade is centered around Kristaps Porzingis

Kristaps Porzingis was already involved in one blockbuster deal in his NBA career. He was originally sent to the Dallas Mavericks from the New York Knicks and was supposed to be the future of the franchise along with Luka Doncic. So far, his health has gotten in the way of those plans.

Porzingis has dealt with injuries over the course of his career and that has not stopped since he came to Dallas. He missed time at the beginning of the season but has played well when healthy. Porzingis is averaging 20.5 points in 17 games this season.

The front office in Dallas could begin to get impatient with Porzingis’ injury concerns. Mark Cuban recently came out and said that the trade rumors were false but it seems likely to happen at some point.

If the Mavericks decide to pull the trigger, the San Antonio Spurs could be an interesting trade destination. The Spurs are another team that has been featured in NBA trade rumors since the offseason. San Antonio is 16-12 this season and looking like they are going to contend for a postseason spot. This comes one year after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in 22 years.

DeMar DeRozan has been the biggest name in NBA trade rumors but has also been the team’s leader scoring 19.8 points per game. DeRozan, along with LaMarcus Aldridge, could be veterans on the move at the deadline.

This would be a trade to shake things up a bit in the Western Conference. It would also solve problems for both teams. Here is what a potential deal might look like between the two sides.
