Why This Trade makes sense for the San Antonio Spurs

The biggest need for the San Antonio Spurs as an organization right now is immediate talent. DeMar DeRozan is the leader of this team and he should be able to take this Spurs team to the playoffs, but they could be even more than a lower-seed in the playoffs with Zach LaVine. 

Adding the 25-year old guard to their roster gives the Spurs not only another dynamic offensive weapon, but a guy who is more than capable of taking over the game. With the roster they already have, the Spurs are definitely a tough team to guard because of all of their dynamic scorers, but they are predictable since DeRozan always has the ball in his hands. 

When it matters most, they only have one guy they can lean on for production, which is DeMar DeRozan. Adding Zach LaVine to the mix gives them that other All_Star level player they so desperately need and suddenly turns this Spurs team into a legit contender. 

Chandler Hutchison is also a young wing that has shown flashes of his potential. Hutchison is in his third year in the NBA and with DeMar DeRozan being in the final year of his contract and his future very much up-in-the-air, the young forward could give the Spurs more depth on the wing to build with for the future. 

Losing Patty Mills and some first-round picks definitely hurts the Spurs, but Zach LaVine is a young talent that they could utilize and make the face of their franchise for the next decade. Players like LaVine do not hit the trade market often and if the Spurs were able to acquire him, they would once again prove to the rest of the NBA that they are not going anywhere.
