A Julius Randle & Christian Wood Frontcourt Duo Would Be Intriguing
One of the major weaknesses with this year’s Houston Rockets team is that they are not a terrific rebounding team and do not have much depth in their frontcourt. Houston currently ranks 19th in the league in rebounding and they do not have many reliable frontcourt options.
P.J. Tucker is an aging veteran who can be non-existent at times, DeMarcus Cousins is still recovering from some major injuries and is not the same NBA All-Star talent that he was and Christian Wood has been dealing with some lingering ankle issues all season long. This team needs another reliable frontcourt option next to Wood long-term, which is why Julius Randle makes a lot of sense.
The best part about Julius Randle is that he is a versatile big man and would have no problem playing the power-forward position next to another high-level center like Christian Wood. The two of them would be a nightmare to guard for opponents because of their length and toughness in the paint.
Not only would they be one of the best rebounding frontcourt duos in the league, but arguably the best scoring frontcourt in the league. Both guys are averaging double-doubles this season and combined, they could bring enough firepower to this Rockets roster for them to sneak into the playoffs this year without Westbrook and Harden.
It seems crazy to think about, but after trading James Harden, the Houston Rockets may not have to rebuild after all! Trading for Julius Randle from the Knicks now will get rid of any plans to rebuild and set the Houston Rockets up for a lot of long-term success moving forward.
