Why trading for Derrick Rose was the right move for the Knicks

Relationship With Tom Thibodeau

One of the reasons adding Derrick Rose to the mix in New York with the Knicks makes sense is because of the long tenured relationship between Tom Thibodeau and Derrick Rose. Rose has played for Thibodeau on two separate stints in the NBA and they will now combine for a third stint.

Tom Thibodeau loves to bring back his veteran players to help mentor his younger guys and Derrick Rose is one of his most respected players he’s ever coached.

Rose won an NBA MVP under Tom Thibodeau’s guidance during his stint in Chicago and he could serve as an important role player for the 11-14 Knicks. Both parties clearly trust each other and that’s why Thibodeau prompted the Minnesota Timberwolves to trade for him during their time with the team.

The Knicks are currently on the bubble of being in the playoffs if the season ended today and adding a player like Derrick Rose will do nothing but help their case. Rose’s familiarity with Tom Thibodeau is a great addition to his skill set as well and should make for a rather smooth transition.
