Boston Celtics Need A Reliable Center
While they did sign Tristan Thompson this offseason, the Boston Celtics have long been linked to Myles Turner trade rumors, and being able to get him would solidify this team as one of the top teams not just in the Eastern Conference, but the entire NBA. Thompson, Daniel Theis and Robert Williams are the Celtics three centers this year and so far, they have combined to average 22.3 points, 19.2 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and are shooting an average of 61.1% from the floor.
This season with the Pacers, Myles Turner is averaging 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 blocks (league-high) and is shooting 50.9% from the floor, plus 33% from three-point range. Not only is Turner scoring an average that is half of what the three Celtics big men combined for this year, but he is an all-around better big man than all three of them combined.
Whether it is contributing on the offensive-end of the court, knocking down a big shot from deep, or taking care of business in the paint defensively, Myles Turner is a terrific center and does not get the credit he deserves. Believe it or not, Turner is probably a Top-10 center in the league because of his overall versatility.
He is not going to go out every night and score 20+ points like Joel Embiid or Nikola Jokic, but he is going to score 10-15 points a night and could be a double-double machine with Boston. They already have their “go-to” scorers and 25+ points per night guys in Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker, but this team needs an anchor in the paint.
Myles Turner would have no problem being the fourth best scoring option for this team and would embrace his role as being a shot-blocker and rebounder. Unless this team adds some serious frontcourt help, they are going to come up short of making the NBA Finals again.
