Why This Trade Would Benefit The New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans are a rebuilding team in a very difficult Western Conference. They are currently 8-12 and there are little hopes of things turning around this season. They could either land a big name at the NBA trade deadline or continue down this path that could take quite some time.
Zion Williamson leads the team scoring 23.7 points a night while Brandon Ingram is right behind him with 23.4. Outside of their top two, the Pelicans have few players who will be around long-term. This is where a trade could come into play.
For players like JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball, they would be able to get a nice return in any deal they make. If the return is Myles Turner, that is even better because he provides a specific, needed skill-set alongside Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Myles Turner currently has three years left on his deal where he will be making $17.5 million a year. This is a team-friendly contract when looking at the player they will be getting.
Again, the Pelicans would need to move on from Steven Adams in a separate trade. Making a move for Myles Turner would be worthwhile considering he provides a vastly different set of intangibles than Adams and could help elevate New Orleans in a needed way.
