Why This Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have a duo of veteran players on their roster. Both are playing well this season but do not fit into the future plans. In this trade, LaMarcus Aldridge would be the one sent away for a valuable return. The Charlotte Hornets have some assets that could help the Spurs sooner than later.

Dejounte Murray is playing exceptional ball for the Spurs. He is the point guard of the future and could get some help in the backcourt. Monk has played just one game this season because of concerns with COVID. He is a guard with a high ceiling and could take the next step under the influence of Gregg Popovich. If there is one coach to learn from, it is Pop.

The Spurs would also get a first-round pick which would help the direction of the team. This rebuild could be quick for San Antonio if they push the right buttons A trade such as this one could be the right button.

It will be interesting to see if the Spurs decide to send away either DeRozan or Aldridge prior to the NBA trade deadline. Neither player is under contract long-term and could choose to depart at some point — leaving San Antonio without a return.
