Why This Trade Would Benefit The Dallas Mavericks
When looking at the situation for the Dallas Mavericks, there is no real reason to trade Kristaps Porzingis unless they are concerned about his long-term health. If that is the case, then they could try to get the large return for him in the short-term before it’s a substantial issue.
The feeling surrounding Dallas was that they were interested in adding a third star to team up with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. He has returned to the lineup and played well in the two games since coming off of the injured list.
The other benefit of this deal would be the return. Marcus Smart and Tristan Thompson are starting-caliber players who would come in and make a difference immediately alongside Luka Doncic. Grant Williams would also be a depth piece and help them right away. Additionally, the Mavericks would have the trade pieces to land a cheaper stretch-five like Myles Turner.
It would be interesting to see the reaction from the NBA if Porzingis is traded once again. This is not like the situation in New York. This would be a complete shock and certainly change the dynamic of both conferences.
