Why This Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks
The front office needs to decide their plan with Julius Randle. They could decide to trade him and that could be done sooner than later given his hot start. If they decide to sign Randle long term, it would be because of this start. Either way, Randle is playing himself into a different situation.
If the New York Knicks decided to go the way of the trade, DeMar DeRozan could come to town. This is the star presence that New York is missing. They are getting great contributions from Randle and RJ Barrett but they are not stars in the NBA. Immanuel Quickley and Austin Rivers have stepped up but continue to be role players, which is fine.
The Knicks have a roster that would be taken up a notch with the addition of a star or two. DeMar DeRozan is one that would help immediately. He is still one of the top midrange threats in the game and could lead an offense.
New York is not a championship contender. They are not even a playoff team just yet but they are 5-3 and could ride the hot start into a trade. If a star is acquired then you never know.
