Why The Trade Benefits The Lakers
It is clear and obvious that the Lakers do not need any more help to win a championship. They were able to be crowned during the restart and once again are the top team in the Western Conference. That will not change moving forward and they will look to retain their title later.
Malik Monk would hopefully bring some consistency in depth to the perimeter. Los Angeles improved their point guard position when they made the trade for Dennis Schroder.
Kyle Kuzma received an extension in the offseason, but has struggled with consistency over the course of his career. It is not time to give up on Kuzma, but adding Monk would just give him some help out there.
A team can never have too many options, especially a team looking to contend for championships. That is exactly what the Lakers are doing and will be doing for quite some time. LeBron James and Anthony Davis could use all the help they can get.
