This Clippers-Spurs trade would send an intriguing shooter to L.A.

Patty Mills, Spurs, Clippers

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: G Patty Mills, SAS 2021 2nd Round Pick, SAS 2023 1st Round Pick (Lottery-Protected)

San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Patrick Beverley, LAC 2024 2nd Round Pick

Patty Mills has been with Spurs organization since 2011 and has always been one of their consistent role players off the bench. His veteran leadership and scoring ability is something that is often overlooked and something that the Clippers could utilize in their efforts to win their first championship in franchise history.

Last season with the Spurs, Mills averaged 11.6 points, 1.8 assists, and shot 43.1% from the floor and 38.2% from three-point range. While he does not bring much to the table on the defensive end of the court, Mills has steadily been a productive offensive weapon over the years and has put together some solid years these last few seasons as he is now 32 years old.

His ability to still contribute at a high level and be an excellent bench option on a championship level team is what makes him a valuable player and a guy the Clippers should absolutely target in trade talks with the Spurs.

Patrick Beverley has been one of the vocal leaders for the Clippers for years now, but he has not been a consistent player for them. He is a streaky player on the offensive end of the court and while he has shot 38.2% from three-point range over the course of his career, he is not a guy who can be counted on to make a play on offense when it matters most.

Mills is a better offensive player than Beverley, whereas Beverley is a better defensive player than Mills, but the big difference is that Mills is on an expiring contract while Pat Bev is under contract through the 2021-22 season.

Let’s take a closer look as to how both teams could make out well from this trade and why this trade makes sense for both the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers.
