Los Angeles Clippers coach Tryonn Lue confirmed that Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard will miss Wednesday’s Game 5 against the Dallas Mavericks as both teams are engaged in a 2-2 series tie in their NBA playoff series.

Leonard, still managing inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee, did not participate in Tuesday’s practice session.

Despite Leonard’s absence, the Clippers secured a win in Game 4, tying the best-of-seven series at 2-2. In that game, Paul George and James Harden led the team, combining 66 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds.

Leonard sat out the final eight games of the regular season and the first playoff game. He returned to play 35 minutes in Game 2, contributing 15 points. However, he reported unfavorable reactions in his knee following the game.

Despite attempting to play through the discomfort, Leonard managed only nine points and nine rebounds over 25 minutes in Game 3, visibly struggling with mobility.

Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank later announced that Leonard would be sidelined until he could perform at his previous level, with no clear timeline for his return.

Despite not being active on the court, Leonard continues to contribute by supporting his teammates from the sidelines, Lue noted.

“Kawhi has been very involved, offering insights during shootarounds and practices, and providing guidance to players during games,” Lue said.

Leonard’s ongoing involvement has been crucial as the Clippers navigate the series without one of their key players.
