Why This Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs
It is uncharacteristic for the San Antonio Spurs to ever want to tear down its roster and undergo a full rebuild. Right now, there is a blend of intriguing young players with established veteran contributors. Dennis Schroder could help them to make a run at a playoff spot.
As of right now, Schroder appears to be more capable of making consistent contributions within the half-court on offense. He would help the Spurs to win with DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge still on the roster— providing more experience for Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell experience in meaningful moments.
There ultimately isn’t a need to trade away Dejounte Murray by any stretch of the imagination but receiving an upgrade at the point guard who is only 27-years-old would help. Bottom line, Schroder would better align with the timeline of DeRozan and Aldridge.
It doesn’t hurt the Spurs to receive some NBA Draft compensation from the Los Angeles Lakers. As long as they would be comfortable paying the price for what Dennis Schroder will likely command on his next contract, this deal would benefit San Antonio plenty.
