Why The Trade Benefits The Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics held three first-round picks in the 2020 NBA Draft. The idea of trading up to acquire a big man was very possible but they decided to remain where they were. Tristan Thompson was their lone signing in the frontcourt so one would assume that they feel good about the position they are in.

During the NBA postseason, Boston was eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Miami Heat. Bam Adebayo was able to assert dominance early on in the series and that continued throughout. This shined light on the massive need down low for the Celtics.

In this trade, they would acquire one of the most underrated bigs in the league. Turner would balance their team on both ends of the floor. He would give them an inside presence with his elite rim protection as a weak-side help defender.

The Celtics are a win-now team that will finish near the top of the conference once again. They could continue their rise by making a few deals here and there to improve the team.
