Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Minnesota Timberwolves

After trading for D’Angelo Russell at the trade deadline last year and draft Anthony Edwards No. 1 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Timberwolves will likely hold off on any trades talks until they can evaluate their team at the half-way point in the season. Any trades for Minnesota will not be done until the trade deadline and they may even hold off on making any trades this year as they see how their core plays together.

Minnesota is not in a position to win immediately as they have a really strong trio in Russell-Edwards-Towns that could wind up being a force in the Western Conference for years to come. The only thing is that nobody knows how all of these players are going to work out together, which is why Minnesota will take their time to evaluate this team closely before making any rash decisions.

Over the course of a season, anything can change and if the Timberwolves struggle/bat heads with each other, it could cause some tension between management and Towns, who has been loyal to their rebuilding process for five seasons now. If KAT does decide he wants out of Minnesota, then this trade package would be the best thing Minnesota can get for the 2x All-Star.

Devonte’ Graham could end up being a fantastic player next to D’Angelo Russell and Miles Bridges would fit in perfectly with the Timberwolves up-tempo style of play. With two high-level scorers in the backcourt and two extremely gifted athletes on the wing, the Minnesota Timberwolves would be a great, young team in the West and have numerous options to play around with on offense as opposed to the three they have now.

Not to mention, the two first-round picks they would be receiving would be extremely important to this team as they finish their rebuilding process. They could either use these picks to keep drafting high-level, young talent, or they could go out and try and bring in another All-Star level player to solidify their roster as a playoff contender.

Plenty of guys like Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Myles Turner and DeMar DeRozan are available for the right price and by having numerous draft picks and youthful talent on their roster, the Timberwolves could wind up flipping Karl-Anthony Towns for two All-Star level talents.

There is no telling on what the Timberwolves have planned moving forward as far as trades at the moment, as they want to evaluate their roster in a full season before making any moves. Any trade involving Karl-Anthony Towns will likely not occur until next offseason at the earliest.
