Why This Trade Benefits The Charlotte Hornets
In order for this team to be as successful as they hope to be moving forward, they need to bring in another All-Star talent and why not address two needs at the same time in acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns? The Charlotte Hornets have not had consistent play in their frontcourt forever and Cody Zeller is not a reliable center.
P.J. Washington put together a great rookie season last year at the power forward position, but in order for him to be his best, he needs a reliable center by his side that way all of the pressure is not on him in the frontcourt. KAT is one of the NBA’s best big men and with him and Gordon Hayward leading the way, Charlotte is a lock to be a playoff team in the East.
Trading away both Devonte’ Graham and Miles Bridges though would be tough for Charlotte, even though they are getting Towns. Both guys are youthful talents and could be excellent players moving forward for the Hornets, but do not offer as much upside for the entire organization as KAT would.
Charlotte needs another All-Star talent and while Devonte’ Graham had a fantastic season last year, LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier are all in the backcourt for them, so it would not be a total loss. Although he has not played this year yet, the Hornets still do have former lottery-pick Malik Monk on their roster as well and he could wind up having a breakout year like Graham had last year given the chance.
While they would be trading away their future by giving up two first-round draft picks and a second-round draft pick, the Hornets would be investing in Towns to be their future. He is a proven All-Star talent that can be sustainable for this franchise for the next decade, which is exactly why if the opportunity comes their way, they have to be willing to trade away whoever the Timberwolves want in order to land the former #1 overall pick.
