Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Washington Wizards
This trade revolves around if the Wizards are willing to part with Bradley Beal and if they are, it may not be the worst thing for them to do. While it may seem like a bad trade on Washington’s side of things, especially after trading for Russell Westbrook this past offseason, there are a lot of positives for the Wizards by sending Beal to Golden State.
Not only is Andrew Wiggins a solid two-way player, but the two first-round picks they would be receiving from the Warriors could go a long way in building a sustainable young core in Washington. Minnesota’s first-round pick this upcoming season is expected to be a Top-10 pick and then by 2025, the Warriors’ first-round pick could end up being a valuable first-round selection.
The Wizards just drafted Deni Avdija in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft and have young talents like Troy Brown Jr, Rui Hachimura, and Thomas Bryant. By adding another high-level, young talent to this roster via the Timberwolves’ first-round pick, the Wizards could set themselves up for success for many years to come.
Not to mention, Andrew Wiggins is only 25-years old and can be a player the Wizards can build with for plenty of years to come. This Wiggins-Westbrook combo would be a very athletic duo that could decimate teams in transition.
Washington has also been one of the worst defensive teams over the years and neither Bradley Beal nor Russell Westbrook help them on this end of the court. Andrew Wiggins however does and he can easily be one of the team’s better defenders immediately.
The best part about this trade for the Washington Wizards is the fact that they get two first-round picks, especially Minnesota’s first-round pick next year. If the Wizards are willing to part with Bradley Beal, this is one of the better trades for them in terms of getting draft assets. It should be interesting to watch the Wizards this year and see if they decide to pull the trigger on trading Bradley Beal.
