This Clippers-Pistons trade would send Blake Griffin back to Los Angeles

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Pistons

This offseason, the Detroit Pistons were extremely busy with trying to build their team of the future. They drafted Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, and Isaiah Stewart to be their young core moving forward and then signed Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee to long-term contracts.

This team has the potential to be special down the road, but by trading Blake Griffin and getting Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley, and Marcus Morris, they could be better than a lot of people have them tabbed to be this season.

It is expected that the Pistons once again will finish near the bottom of the league in the standings, but acquiring these three veteran players could greatly improve them and have their rebuild ahead of schedule by a few years.

Even if the Pistons decide to flip these three veterans in a trade with other teams, Detroit would still be ahead of schedule with their rebuild given the draft assets and young talent they could receive.

Williams, Beverley and Morris could all be traded for at least a first-round pick on their own and possibly one to two young, talented players.

Holding on to Griffin and his mega-contract, especially if Detroit has no plans to include him in their long-term solution, makes zero sense and is why they should look to trade him. As stated before, the Clippers do not have a first-round pick until 2027, which is why if this trade was to be done, it would likely be a three-team trade with this just being one side of the deal.

The Pistons need draft picks moving forward and trading Griffin gives them the assets they need to finally build something special in Detroit. As it stands right now, this organization is not in a position to be a playoff team for the next few seasons as they continue to grow and build their core of young players.

Griffin does not fit into their equation moving forward and as a result, the Pistons should be willing to listen to offers for the former All-Star forward.
