4 teams who should try to trade for Pelicans’ JJ Redick

2. Denver Nuggets

After making the Western Conference Finals last season, the Denver Nuggets lost both Jerami Grant and Miles Plumlee in free agency and have a lot of question marks about who is going to step up this season.

Michael Porter Jr. looks to be a very promising, young player on the wing and Monte Morris also made his impression on the team as the backup point guard last season, but they seem to be missing something.

Last year, both Will Barton and Gary Harris missed time on the wing for the Nuggets and given their lack of depth at those positions this year, if either player was to get injured, the Nuggets would be scrambling for answers. This is why going out and getting JJ Redick early on in the season could prove to be extremely beneficial to Denver.

Not only does his three-point shooting fit their system perfectly with Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic being the primary ball-handlers, but with their pick-and-roll style of play, there would be plenty of catch-and-shoot opportunities for Redick. Denver tends to play with a slower place than most teams in the NBA and as a result, they have been a middle of-the-pack scoring and shooting team over the years.

A slower tempo offense would be very beneficial to Redick’s game as well, because it would allow him to get in a groove offensively and not have to expend a lot of energy running all around the court in transition and off screens like he will be doing if he remains with New Orleans.

Denver needs another veteran player that understands what it takes to win, especially given that Paul Millsap is the only player on the roster with 10+ years of playing experience in the NBA. With both Murray and Jokic being great passers and this team’s lack of shooting depth, it makes perfect sense for them to target a guy like JJ Redick from the Pelicans and he could help this team make it back to the Western Conference Finals with a chance to make the NBA Finals.
