Why the 76ers should still trade for Derrick Rose

2. Adding Rose Allows Simmons To Play Power Forward

While Ben Simmons is a great passer and distributor, the 76ers would be a much better team overall with him at the power forward position and in the front-court with Joel Embiid. Simmons cannot shoot the basketball to save his life and giving him more opportunities to play in the low-post and in the paint could really open up the Sixers’ offense.

Having Simmons being a facilitator from the low-post would put an enormous amount of pressure on opposing defenses because they never know what Simmons would do with the ball. Given his athleticism and quickness, he could easily turn and score over a slower defender, or he could find three-point shooters off of screens.

Moving Simmons to power forward would open a world of possibilities for Philly’s offense and make them extremely difficult to guard in the half-court, especially with Danny Green and Seth Curry being two lethal three-point shooters.

Having Derrick Rose and Simmons on the court at the same time basically gives the 76ers two point guards on the court at once. You would never know who is passing and who is cutting to the basket and with both of these guys being elite level passers, opposing teams would never know where the ball is going.

Regardless of how this would affect the 76ers defensively, adding Rose to this team makes them one of the better offensive teams in the league and it would not come as a surprise to see them be near the top of the league in assists per game if they traded for Rose early on in the year.
