Why the Trade Benefits the Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have been in a confusing position over the last few NBA seasons. They acquired Blake Griffin to pair with Andre Drummond down low. Prior to the shutdown, Drummond was sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Griffin was out with an injury.
Heading into this NBA season, they made some changes to the roster. Jerami Grant was the big signing of the offseason for the Pistons. Meanwhile, Killian Hayes is expected to be the new franchise point guard who will develop over his first few years.
Griffin has two years left on his deal so the short term commitment does not make much sense for Detroit. They would be able to add Barton and Harris, who bring little risk in a deal.
The Pistons have a plan moving forward and have began putting it into action. It will be interesting to see how the front office goes about completing the rest of it over time.
