Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Raptors
Looking at this trade for the Raptors, there are quite a few reasons to pull the trigger on the deal. Even though trading Kyle Lowry would be a sad day, this deal could help Toronto compete this season.
Lowry is an excellent scorer, but there are plenty of areas that he is not great. One of those happens to be defensively, where his energy does not make up for his lack of ability. With VanVleet now locked up long-term, there is no reason to force keeping Lowry around.
Andre Iguodala has been a key piece for quite a few different championship teams. Kelly Olynyk may not be a great player, but he is a solid depth big as well.
Kendrick Nunn is the most intriguing piece in this trade. Last season as a rookie with the Heat, Nunn ended up averaging 15.3 points per game to go along with 3.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds. He would be a great backup point guard and would provide a scoring punch off of the bench.
A first-round pick being thrown into the trade just adds more incentive. Toronto could use that pick or trade it in another deal. This move would make a lot of sense for the Raptors, even though it would be bittersweet seeing Lowry leave town.
