Why The Trade Benefits The Cavaliers

Kevin Love has three years left on his contract and is owed upwards of $30 million each year. That is a hefty price tag for Cleveland, especially if they are interested in extending Drummond.

By flipping Love for Andre Igoudala and Kelly Olynyk, Cleveland would save money.

Olynyk has one year left on his contract where he will earn $12 million in the upcoming season. Igoudala agreed on an extension with the Heat, but it is still significantly less than what Love is owed.

For a rebuilding team, it would benefit them greatly to add some short-term contracts. Also, they would be able to keep the veteran around if this is something they want. The Cavaliers would acquire a first-round pick in this deal, which could be used in many ways moving forward.

Cleveland seems like they are in a position to build around their young back-court and potentially keep one of their bigs. Right now, Love could be the odd man out. He would benefit in this deal as well by being sent to a contender.
