Why the Trade Benefits the Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers would acquire Victor Oladipo in this deal but would also get more assets. Because of the current contract situation, the Indiana Pacers would have to give up a little more to acquire CJ McCollum, even though they are giving up an All-Star caliber player like Oladipo.
Damian Lillard is the franchise in Portland. He is one of the top players in the league and has plenty of good years in front of him. Oladipo would solidify the backcourt for the upcoming season and beyond if they decide to sign in long-term.
If not, Portland would still get two first-rounders in this deal along with rotation players. Doug McDermott and Goga Bitadze are bench players who could contribute immediately.
Trading McCollum might not seem like something that is intriguing to Portland fans, but if Oladipo is the return it might be worth it. Plus, the duo with Lillard and McCollum has not taken Portland where they want to go just yet so some changes might be in the works.
