Will The Brooklyn Nets Trade For James Harden?

The James Harden headlines have been the biggest news of the offseason as the former league MVP and 8x All-Star requested a trade from the Houston Rockets. About a month ago, there were plenty of rumors that the Brooklyn Nets were the front-runners to land Harden in a blockbuster trade, but things have seemed to cool down on the Nets’ side of things.

Both Brooklyn Nets management and Kevin Durant have shot down any rumors on their ends of pursuing James Harden and Durant was very adamant on saying that he and Harden never discussed the possibility of reuniting with one another. It still remains a big question of whether or not the Nets would still pursue a James Harden trade, but at this point, it is safe to say that they will not be trading for him.

While acquiring Harden would give the Brooklyn Nets three dominant, All-NBA players, it would ultimately hurt their chances to contend for championships in the long-run. Would bringing in James Harden help them win now? Yes, the Nets would likely be the favorites to win the title, but without Harden, the Nets are still projected to be one of the top teams in the NBA.

Not only would the Nets have to trade away Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie, but they would likely have to trade Jarrett Allen and a slew of first-round picks as well. LeVert has the makings of being an NBA All-Star one day and Jarrett Alenn has consistently been improving as a playmaker down low, so why would the Nets blow up their roster for Harden, who is now 31-years old?

The Brooklyn Nets should stay away from any James Harden discussions because at the end of the day, trading for Harden may result in a championship in the short-term, but their roster now can provide many championships moving forward.
