Will John Collins Continue To Improve To An All-Star Level?
After missing the whole month of November last season with an injury, John Collins enters the 2020-21 NBA season fully healthy and ready to make a huge impact with the Hawks. Last season, Collins had his best statistical season of his career, averaging 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and shooting 58.3% from the floor, 40.1% from three-point range in 41 games.
He has solidified himself as one of the most versatile power-forwards in the entire league and with nobody competing with him for minutes, John Collins could be in store for an even better 2020-21 campaign. Not only can John Collins provide for himself and be his own playmaker, but the additions of Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu in the frontcourt only help him.
Clint Capela joined the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline last season, but did not play a single game for them due a lingering heel injury. With Capela on the court, he will get a lot of attention from other teams’ big men, leaving Collins with smaller defenders that he can take full advantage of.
Whether it is in the low-post or on the perimeter, John Collins can score from anywhere on the court, but expect to see him on the perimeter a lot more this season. During the 2018-19 season, where he played in 61 games, Collins took 158 three-pointers. Last season in 41 games, Collins took 147 three-pointers.
The Atlanta Hawks are looking to get him more and more three-point opportunities and this season, assuming he can stay healthy, he will likely take over 180 three-pointers. With him being a 36.9% three-point shooter over the course of his three years in the NBA, John Collins could be in store for a monster season and a potential All-Star like season.
