Harry Giles III Puts Together A Solid, Healthy Season
One offseason signing that has not been talked about a lot is Harry Giles III joining the Trail Blazers. Although injuries have plagued his playing career dating back all the way to high school, he still possesses a ton of potential and will be a big time impact player if he can stay on the court.
In two seasons with the Sacramento Kings, Harry Giles has played in 104 games, averaging 7.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and shooting 52.4% from the floor. Given that he only averaged about 14 minutes per game during his two years with the Kings, Giles was very impressive and could wind up being a key rotation guy barring no setbacks with his knees.
In high school, Harry Giles underwent two different surgeries on both knees and then missed the start of his collegiate career after having another surgery done to clean up loose cartilage and scar tissue. Thankfully, he has not undergone any further surgeries or procedures on his knees and has been able to put together a minimal professional career to this point.
In two games this preseason, Giles has led the team in scoring, rebounding, and steals, giving Portland a glimpse into what he can do when given the opportunities on the court. The Blazers signed him to a minimum contract this offseason and it is a no-lose scenario for them with Giles. If he remains healthy, he can vastly improve their frontcourt depth and be a solid option off the bench, but if he is not productive or gets hurt, Portland has no guarantees for him past this year.
Expect to see Harry Giles III get an opportunity to make an impact for Portland early on in the year and if he continues to impress during the preseason, he could wind up having a bigger role with the team than many envisioned.
