Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Timberwolves

First up, we’ll take a closer look at the trade for Minnesota. This is the kind of trade package that the Timberwolves should be looking for in any trade that would involve Karl-Anthony Towns.

In this particular deal, the Wolves would be getting two talented young big men back from the Bulls. Both Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. are quality players who could step in and play immediately. Chandler Hutchison also has a lot of potential and Otto Porter Jr. is a veteran piece that can play a solid role should they keep him.

Markkanen is coming off of a solid 2019-20 season with the Bulls where he averaged 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Carter, on the other hand, averaged 11.3 points and 9.4 rebounds. Both guys would be able to help fill the void left by Towns.

Minnesota will also be needing to find first-round picks in any potential Towns trade. While the Bulls would improve quite a bit with Towns on the roster, the two first-round picks would still be very valuable. They could be packaged in another move or they could be used by the Timberwolves to draft two young pieces.

This trade package may not end up being enough for the Timberwolves, but it is intriguing. Towns has a ton of value and the Bulls may have up the ante a bit if they want to get it done. But, this is a great package and would make Minnesota strongly consider making a blockbuster trade.
