Why the Trade Benefits the Houston Rockets
The options for the Houston Rockets in a potential James Harden trade are limited since they don’t want to deal him to the Western Conference. It takes a certain level of team to justify making a move for a superstar that could leave in a few years— further limiting the amount of potential suitors.
While the attention of many will be on Victor Oladipo since he’s a two-time All-Star, the most intriguing trade piece in this deal is Domantas Sabonis. At 24-years-old, he is coming off an All-Star appearance and has shown to be one of the true rising stars in the NBA.
Adding a solid guard in Aaron Holiday would help the Rockets in this trade scenario. John Wall would clearly not be unseated as the starting point guard, but instead, Houston would have an option to turn to in the event that Wall were to suffer an injury at some point.
Christian Wood is already expected to slot in at the five spot after signing with the Rockets in free agency. However, the goal is to gain the best players available in a potential trade for Harden and reconfigure the roster later depending on the pieces that are received in return.
