Why the Trade Benefits the Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers tried to put together a championship duo and it did not work in year one. It seems premature to want to split up the duo but anything is possible around the NBA. A trade like this one would allow Kawhi Leonard to be the clear-cut No. 1 option.
Leonard is a player with two championship rings from two different teams. He is a leader and someone who knows how to win come postseason time. It would benefit the Clippers to build around him and add role players who compliment Leonard.
With Tyronn Lue as head coach, the Clippers could choose to go in a different direction. If that direction is away from George and someone is willing to take on his contract, then so be it.
Los Angeles would still be a top team in the West with George being sent away in a trade. Leonard is enough of a star to keep the Clippers competing for their ultimate goal.
