Boston Celtics

Frontcourt problems have defined the Boston Celtics over the years and have likely been the reason this team has struggled to make the NBA Finals over the years, losing in the Eastern Conference Finals three of the last four seasons. Because of their lack of depth in the frontcourt, the Celtics have played Jaylen Brown at small-forward and Jayson Tatum at power-forward at times, giving them a better offensive lineup on the court, but hurting them defensively as Tatum and Brown can sometimes get bullied by bigger frontcourt opponents.

Adding Kevin Love to this team not only gives them yet another offensive weapon, but may be the final piece to the puzzle they need to break through and win a championship. The Celtics attempted to bolster their frontcourt this offseason by adding former Cavaliers big man, Tristan Thompson, but they are still missing something.

Bringing in Kevin Love and pairing him with Tristan Thompson underneath not only gives the Celtics two players who are accustomed to playing with one-another, dating back to their years with the Cavaliers, but two guys who have won a championship before. Thompson will be the only guy on the Celtics roster this year with NBA Finals experience and bringing in Kevin Love as another high-level veteran player with championship experience could really go a long-way for this younger Boston Celtics team.

From the Cavaliers perspective, if the Celtics are not willing to trade Jaylen Brown, the odd man out for them would be Marcus Smart and their plethora of draft picks. Marcus Smart would definitely be a valuable addition to the Cavaliers backcourt, which already has young talents such as Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, and the draft picks the Celtics have would be extremely valuable to the Cavs.

The Celtics have five draft picks over the course of the next two NBA Drafts and have a first-round pick in every draft for the next several years. If the Cavs trade Love to the Celtics, they will definitely expect to receive some of this draft capital, as well as Marcus Smart, which would set the Cavaliers up for success sooner than they anticipate.

The Boston Celtics definitely need Kevin Love more than they need Marcus Smart and if they are able to pull off this trade, they will be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference and the team who could possibly take down the defending NBA champion, Los Angeles Lakers.
