5 major NBA storylines to watch entering the 2020-21 NBA season

The 2020-21 NBA season is set to begin on Dec. 22, and while we would like to forget the year 2020 ever existed, last season offered plenty of memorable moments between stars making big plays and teams pulling off surprises.

From the emergence of Luka Doncic as one of the faces of the NBA to the Phoenix Suns’ eight-game win streak in the NBA Bubble to Damian Lillard single-handedly carrying the Portland Trail Blazers to the playoffs, scoring 61 points twice last year, there are plenty of moments that shaped this offseason and will have an impact moving forward into this upcoming season.

There is still a lot of unfinished business in the league though that will be settled over the course of the next few months. Whether it is All-Star players unhappy with their contract situations or new faces on new teams, the 2020-21 NBA season may not have the ability to have sold out arenas, but there will be plenty of drama and storylines throughout the year.

One of the biggest storylines entering this offseason was the fact that the Houston Rockets seemed to be falling apart as reportedly both Russell Westbrook and James Harden both had asked to be traded. After moving on from head coach Mike D’Antoni and GM Daryl Morey, the Rockets front office decided it was also time to move on from Westbrook after just one year with the organization.

In one of the biggest moves of the offseason, the Rockets sent Westbrook to the Washington Wizards in exchange for John Wall and a 2023 protected first-round pick. Wall has not played in an NBA game since December of 2018 and brings a lot of question marks with him to Houston, while Westbrook looks for a fresh start with the high-powered scoring abilities of Bradley Beal at his side.

Both of these big names will look to find success with their new teams this upcoming season and as much as their storyline will be watched, here are the five major storylines to watch and follow heading into the 2020-21 NBA season.
