Why the Trade Benefits the San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are heading in the direction of getting younger. They will compete for a postseason spot next year and will do so on the back of Dejounte Murray. He is an athletic point guard who has proven he could carry a team on the offensive end.
With pieces around Murray, the Spurs have a chance to get back to a familiar place in the process. Dennis Smith Jr. and Kevin Knox are players that have not been able to take the next step in New York. They would benefit greatly from playing for one of the best coaches in NBA history.
Julius Randle would give the Spurs an inside presence on both ends of the floor. He is a scoring threat in the post and has taken his mid-range game to the next level. Randle is also a talented rebounder on both ends.
The Spurs would also add NBA Draft capital in the form of two second round picks in the draft. Those picks could be moved if they saw a deal that they would want to make for another player. Additionally, they’d position themselves to land a great pick ahead of a talented class.
